Just recently, Apple announced at the WWDC23 the MacBook Air 15”, setting a new standard for 15” laptops. Until now, Apple held a gaping hole in their MacBook lineup without a 15-inch model. The 14 or 16-inch ultra-high-end MacBook Pros, or the 13-inch MacBook Air. Lenovo, LG, Dell, Samsung, have held stiff competition in this market, but nothing coming close to comparison of this new MacBook Air. With the higher quality 15-inch laptops costing north of $1,500, the MacBook Air 15-inch starts at just $1,299, pushing the segment for what is really possible for a premium 15-inch laptop. With Joe’s Daily putting it perfectly saying,
It still has all of the great features like the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, like the powerful M2 chip, Touch ID, 1080p HD camera, Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos sound system, with the thinnest and lightest design of any laptop. Although they are very similar, the 15-inch Air tops the 13-inch in the speakers. With a six-speaker setup with force-canceling woofers, rather than a quad-speaker system.
While this Mac is almost identical to its 13-inch counterpart, it starts $700 less that the MacBook Pro 14” and 16”, making the 15” Air the ideal daily worker, with still enough power to handle the more intensive tasks. And now, the 13” MacBook Air starts $100 less than before, at $1099. Think about it, a maxed-out iPhone 14 Pro Max costs more than both of the M2 MacBook Air models, making them a great deal on the market.
But I’ve gotta say, from experience, that the M2 MacBook Air 13″ is a great overall computer. The size is not too small, but it makes it a bit more portable and compact. If you are willing to sacrifice 2 inches worth of screen real estate, then definitely go towards the 13 inch model, being more of a compact, lightweight option. With $200 less than the 15 inch counterpart, it makes this computer even better.
Those looking for stellar performance, the plus screen size, but not needing the top-of-the-line workflow of the MacBook Pros, this Mac is for you.
