At Apple’s Scary Fast event held just before Halloween (hence the name), a new MacBook Pro lineup was announced with an available Space Black color. For recap, the new MacBook Pros also have the new M3 chips, starting from the M3 chip at a lower price, replacing the 13″ MacBook Pro. Overall, they have most of the same customization features, besides now being able to go up to 128GB in SSD. WOW! Not many other changes other than what I stated though.
The new Space Black color is only available in the M3 Pro or M3 Max chip models, forcing you to fork over at least $1,999. Is it worth it though? Let’s dive in. This color is a darker shade than Space Grey, but a deeper, darker shade than the Midnight color on the MacBook Air models. Unlike the Midnight MacBook Air, the Space Black MacBook Pro has a fingerprint resistant coating over the casing. I recently got to see the new color in-person at the Apple Store, and it does live up to its hype. I dragged by hands on the MacBook and I saw minimal to no fingerprints or markings. This is completely the opposite to the Midnight MacBook Air with has no resistant to fingerprints.
Overall, the Space Black MacBook Pro is a great new option for the pro lineup of MacBooks. A great color has to come with compromises (like the Midnight color), but the Space Black color eliminates any worries about fingerprints. If I would get a MacBook Pro, I would most definitely be getting this new color. It seems like it is getting great feedback and becoming very popular from customers and reviewers. This new color has been a success from Apple!
