Why I got the iPhone 16 Plus

Something exciting that I recently did was buy myself a new iPhone. I saved up some money and also used the trade-in value from my previous iPhone to use toward the new phone. Let me dive in to my reasonings behind getting the model I bought.

Originally, I had an iPhone 13 that worked for me, but the battery life wouldn’t last me an entire day, which began to be frustrating. I knew I eventually wanted to get a new iPhone and my philosophy behind upgrading is every three generations (hence the jump from iPhone 13 to 16). Also, the three generations makes your current phone still have enough trade-in value to take a chunk out of the purchase price.

Another reason that I upgraded specifically to the iPhone 16 series is all of the great features that are now standard with the base models (iPhone 16 & 16 Plus). Some features that caught my eye included the Camera Control, the new Action Button, great new camera with macro photography and a 2x zoom in the main camera, the dynamic island, and Apple Intelligence. Many of those features were not even found in the iPhone 15 series as standard, making the iPhone 16 more appealing to me as a buyer.

When deciding which model I wanted to get, I knew I would not need one of the Pro models. The reason being is because many of the features that are present on the Pro models are also now found on the base iPhone 16’s like the Action Button, Camera Control, Dynamic Island, and a great camera system. I also decided when going to my local Apple store that I probably would want the larger screen size, or the Plus model, because it feels more natural in my larger hands. That is how I landed on getting the iPhone 16 Plus as opposed to any other model. My iPhone 13 gave me $250 of trade-in value to take off of the new phone’s price, which was really nice. I also got the 256GB storage (the second tier above the base storage) along with an Apple silicone case.

Also, when I was at my local Apple store, I looked at all of the several color options and also how they would look with the Apple silicone cases and their colors. I chose the Ultramarine iPhone color with the Denim silicone case. I think these colors really complement each other and the blue color Apple makes is a really vibrant color all around that spruces up an iPhone’s exterior. I ordered the iPhone 16 Plus online and picked it up at the Apple store near me and was a simple process to pick up and then easy to set up at home.

Here is a video of my unboxing experience with my new iPhone 16 Plus:

One of the biggest things that I have noticed is the battery life. Usually, at the end of the day, I have more than 50% left on my battery, as opposed to my previous iPhone 13 that would be dead by the end of the day. I also have really enjoyed using the great camera system that is much better compared to the iPhone 13, with macro photography, and the 2x main camera. I also have used the functionality of the Dynamic Island for tracking timers, sports scores, and media that is playing. I have also played with the Camera Control for taking photos and doing actions in the camera like zooming in and adjusting the focus.

Overall, I have really enjoyed my new iPhone and feel that it has been a worthwhile upgrade over the iPhone 13. The combination of improved battery life, new camera features, and the convenience of the Dynamic Island and Action Button has made my daily experience much better. The larger screen on the Plus model has also been a great addition for viewing things on a larger scale. While it was an investment, I feel that the trade-in value from my iPhone 13 helped offset the cost, which made it a more attainable price tag. I’m excited to continue using my iPhone 16 Plus and uncover more great features as I continue to use my new iPhone!
