Apple announces WWDC26 for June 8

Today, Apple officially announced this year’s WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), starting Monday, June 8 and lasting through June 12.

Every year, this is the event that I look forward to the most. The new software affects nearly everyone with a new enough phone, giving free updates to your devices that bring new features and upgrades without purchasing a new device. Each year it starts with a Keynote on Monday, showcasing the latest updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, visionOS, and more. Later in the week, Apple hosts different sessions for developers to learn and interact with the latest features and find ways to integrate them into their work.

Usually, it is only software announced at WWDC, but we have seen exceptions in the past, such as the Vision Pro and new MacBooks. Possibly some new hardware? Who knows.

In the press release announcement for WWDC26, Apple hinted at showcasing “AI advancements” as well as other software updates. The smarter version of Siri has been heavily delayed, with it being announced several years ago and still not getting access to it yet. While we did get Apple Intelligence, ChatGPT integration, and the new interface, there is no on-screen awareness or many of the other advancements previously announced. Hopefully that changes with this WWDC and latest software releases. Give us what you promised!

The teaser art for this year’s conference features a black background with a white, glowing WWDC26 running from bottom to top or left to right. Could this hint at new updates to light and dark mode in the operating systems? Possibly, but the rumors are saying specifically for iOS 27 that Apple is expected to focus on refining last year’s Liquid Glass design, as well as releasing new or previously delayed AI features with Google’s Gemini AI model integration, and hinting at a “Snow Leopard-type” upgrade, improving overall platform stability. I think this is a much need for specifically the iPhone, since with the release of Liquid Glass, there have been several bugs and some getting used to for users. Providing more customization of the interface and ways to revert would help users who prefer the older interface still be able to use the latest software, but with the design that they prefer.

Be sure to tune in on Monday, June 8 (presumably at 10AM PST) for some exciting new updates and announcements! Appel will be streaming it live on their website and on their YouTube channel.
